An early explorer and originator of Conceptual art, Robert Barry has been making artwork that probes absence, or what we perceive to be absence. The exhibitions title speaks directly to this notion. It comes from a penciled wall piece, All the things I know but of which I am not at the moment thinking1:36p.m.; June 15, 1969 (1969).
America was white hot. It seemed that we, the people, couldn’t hold our country. Or, perhaps, the country just couldn’t hold all of us. Misunderstanding, disaffection, recrimination, accusation, bloviating, and lies: a swirling smog of rhetoric cloaked us all. What words could possibly cut through?
